Frequently Asked Questions

DETERMINING YOUR OPTIONS FOR CANADIAN IMMIGRATION

For those who are planning to immigrate to Canada, one important consideration is choosing the right Canadian immigration program.

Your selection of a program is dependent upon three factors:

  1. Your qualities and any specific skills that you possess;
  2. Your goals when you live in the country; and
  3. Your particular, current situation.

At present, Canada has over 60 available immigration programs. Because you need to take into consideration the three factors mentioned above in your selection of a program, it is no surprise therefore that each immigrant will go through unique paths in order to achieve Permanent Resident status. In addition, both Canadian federal and provincial governments are always updating and revising their existing programs to ensure successful Canadian immigration.

Categories for Professionals and Workers

There are several categories in which skilled workers and professionals may qualify for a Canadian Immigration Permanent Resident Visa. Among these categories are…

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW)
  • Quebec Skilled Worker Program
  • Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs)  the individual provinces and territories (except Quebec)
  • Canadian Experience Class
  • Quebec Experience Class
  • Federal Self-Employed Program
  • Investors and Entrepreneurs
  • Family Class Sponsorship Programs = programs that enable Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents to sponsor family members and loved ones for immigration.

FAQ on Choosing the Right Canadian Immigration Program

Let us take a look at some of the questions that AccessPoint Immigration Services frequently receives about the various immigration programs in Canada…

Q: “What is the program for a person like who has a post-secondary education?”

A: Education is highly valued in Canada and is a major point for consideration in majority of its immigration programs. Programs like the FSW and the PNPs, assign specific point values to the education that you have attained. We will be very happy to give you a free assessment to determine if your education is sufficient to give you eligibility into an economic immigration program.

Q: “Am I eligible to immigrate to Canada if I only have one year of skilled work experience?”

A: Unlike other countries that require immigration candidates to have two or more years of experience, Canadian immigration candidates have a good chance of assimilation into the country’s labour market with at least one year of skilled work experience. Programs like the FSW and PNP assign point values to your work experience. The higher your point value, the greater are your chances of successful immigration. We will provide you with a free assessment to determine if your work experience will increase your Canadian immigration options.

Q: “I have a job offer in Canada. What do I do?”

A: Every job offer has to meet certain requirements that are set forth by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and other government offices and agencies. In some cases, these job offers may serve as the openings for your potential immigration into the country. AccessPoint will be very happy to assess the job offer and inform you if it meets immigration program requirements.

Q: “Can I get a relative or friend – who is a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident – to help me immigrate to Canada?”

A: It is possible to obtain a Canadian Permanent Resident Visa under the Family Class Program if you have a close relative living in the country. If it is a friend who is living in Canada, your best option would be to apply first through the PNP. Having a close friend living in the province comes with awards points that will help increase your chances of Canadian immigration. Tell us about any relatives or friends you may have in the country and we will match these relationships to the right programs in order to increase your immigration options.

Q: “What do I do if I have already studied or worked in Canada?”

A: Individuals who have already studied or worked in the country should explore the Canadian Experience Class and Quebec Exchange Class programs. We shall assess if your study and work experiences make you eligible for immigration through these programs.

Q: “I have substantial financial resources and I want to invest my fortune in Canada. Will this help improve my chances of immigration?”

A: In truth, Canada is looking for entrepreneurs and investors who can help in boosting the Canadian economy. The PNPs have investment or business streams so that you can invest in and/or operate a business in the country. Other ways by which you can obtain Canadian Permanent Resident status is through the Investor Immigration Program and the Entrepreneur Immigration Program. To be able to present the best immigration options for you, please mention your net worth, the businesses you own, and your management experience.

Q: “What if I have a business that I own or manage?”

A: Being a business owner and/or manager gives you eligibility into the PNP, the Business Investor Program, and the Entrepreneur Program. When applying for immigration, we shall ask you for more information about the type of business you plan to operate in Canada, as well as your business ownership and management experience.
